The New Self

I established in my last post that the ego will frequently block our path to success, if what we want to achieve is at odds with what we believe right now.

Beliefs are often created and adopted into our minds from a small, illogical statement or event. Just one tiny statement, forgotten by the one who made it, can lodge itself in your belief system and hold you back!

As an example of a single statement being accepted unquestioningly as a belief by an individual, I would like to tell you about a good friend. He remembers to this day a comment made on one of his school report cards (he’s now 36 years old) – “If he wants to achieve all he desires, he will have to work much harder for it”, were the sternly penned remarks from the teacher. To this day, my friend believes that he will not be rich as he doesn’t work hard enough. Those words from that teacher (who no doubt will have completely forgotten having written them) have stuck in my friend’s mind, being adopted into his belief system and forever limiting him from achieving what he desires!

NO! Stop this right now! We must all see how childish and illogical beliefs are which are based on so little. My friend has achieved so many amazing and remarkable things throughout his life which (if he chooses) can be the basis of a whole new belief, huge enough to crush this silly, unencouraging teachers comment!

So look at your beliefs, write them down, put them under the spotlight. See how flimsy they are. Be argumentative and think of all the wonderful positive things you have done and achieved which crush these silly blockers, and write them down. Scribble out the old beliefs with a thick black pen, and make sure those new empowering beliefs overwrite them boldly!

Now believe them always. Whenever you find yourself being negative, say STOP! And bring to mind immediately your new wonderful belief.

See yourself as the person you intend to become. Really see yourself – what clothes are you wearing? How do you feel? Where are you? Perhaps you’re drinking champagne on a rooftop balcony; if so, what can you hear, see, feel and smell? Who are you with? What about if you visualise yourself in the car you have always wanted? What does the inside of that new car smell like? Feel the steering wheel in your hands.

Self development is something you need to work on. Make sure you are aware of your thoughts – really be in the present and if you find yourself thinking of one of your old excuses or beliefs, say STOP! Then consciously turn your thoughts to your new successful thoughts. If you keep doing this, your new thoughts will come more naturally and frequently until they dominate.

Then these new thoughts will become your new reality.

Keep trying – this does work!

All the best.
